An affirmation should be short and simply constructed in order to make it more effective. Making an affirmation long and convoluted can end up creating a negative mindset, as opposed to a positive. A short affirmation is one that can be easily spoken and repeated for maximum effect, in essence becoming a personal mantra.

An affirmation needs to be repeated in order to be effective. Repetition allows the affirmation to penetrate the subconscious and motivate the person to act out the affirmation. The person should have a strong involvement with the words spoken, as this will help the affirmation come to fruition. Writing down words that hold a strong belief can create a very powerful affirmation.

The act of creation and repetition of an affirmation is not enough to create a positive state of mind. The affirmation needs to be lived as well as spoken, as this will create an open-minded sense of being that will help make the affirmation real. A person needs to truly feel the affirmation and apply it to their life in order for it to happen.

The use of an affirmation is most commonly employed to make an individual better, but it can also be applied to another. You can help someone else improve their self-worth by affirming their existence or their fitness goals.
