Woman's burning body found on L.A. street

Authorities in Los Angeles are investigating a body found burning on a South Los Angeles street Monday night.

Police were called to an area near 94th Street?and South Grand Avenue?after?receiving a report around 9:45 p.m. that a witness saw a woman?s body on fire, Los Angeles Police Department Spokesman Richard French told NBC News.

When they arrived, officers?found a charred body in the road not far from the sidewalk. The body was that of an unidentified black woman who?was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office.


French said there is an ongoing investigation and detectives aren?t yet ruling it a homicide.

?She could have set herself on fire for all we know,? French said.

The woman has not been identified.?Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the LAPD.
