Horseracing competition in honour of Moshoeshoe I | Public Eye Daily

By Nthako Majoro

MASERU-Basotho living in Botshabelo in the Free State, South Africa, have organised a horseracing competition as part of Moshoeshoe?s Day commemorations.

King Moshoeshoe I ?founder of the Basotho nation?passed away on March 11, 1870 and his death has since become a national holiday in Lesotho, marked by various recreational activities.

And according to the Lesotho Sport and Recreation Commission Traditional Commissioner Elliot Lehora, a Botshabelo-based organisation called Thaba-Bosiu Mokhorong oa Khotla had unveiled a horseracing event in honour of King Moshoeshoe I, to which local riders were invited. ????

?

?We have been invited to a horseracing competition, which is being organised by Lesotho nationals residing in the Free State; the invite was from an organisation called Thaba-Bosiu Mokhorong oa Khotla.? The main purpose of the event is to celebrate Moshoeshoe?s Day,? Lehora said.

?

According to Lehora, the invite did not set any limit as to how many local riders could take part in the event.

?We can send as many of our riders and horses as possible since the competition has no limit. This would be the first time our riders are to compete in the Free State, and based on current performance, I?m confident we will do well in Botshabelo.?
