Researchers are putting in their best efforts and brain to help tackle cancer with the help of patient?s own body cells. If the experiment passes, cancer research would definitely get a big victory against the illness.

The approach was recently ran by immunologists at the Stanford University School of Medicine, who concluded from their findings that the experiment had mark a success against ovarian, breast, colon, bladder, liver, prostate and brain cancer cells.

Researchers hope that they find similar results upon repeating the work in people as well. Hopes are higher and fingers are crossed to get the positive results from the experiment, as this would prove a big victory of science in cancer research, with the help of which, doctors will get a newest and the most effective approach to fight against cancer with the patient?s own marshal defender cells.

The most important key in the entire procedure is a cell protein called CD47, which is found on the cell membranes and help in daily functioning of the red blood cells. Researchers are already investigating the protein for the treatment of leukemia, reports confirm.

While running experiment over the animals, researchers injected the antibodies in their bodies in order to bind them to CD47 and block out its protective signal.

"If we can block this signal, we can get the immune system to eat [the cancer cells] up", said Mr. Stephen Willingham, a postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of immunologist Dr. Irving Weissman at Stanford and first author of a paper about the work.

When you?re building your own computer, the first thing to decide is: How much of an enthusiast do you want to be? If you have the desire and the money, you can go for an all-out bleeding-edge system; if not, there are usually more reasonable options. Well, the Intel Core i7-3820 CPU is certainly reasonable by the standards of the company?s Sandy Bridge?Extreme line: Priced at $294 list, it?s noticeably less expensive than either the top-tier Core i7-3960X Extreme Edition ($999 list) or the nipping-at-its-heels Core i7-3930K ($583 list). With the Core i7-3820 you?ll still get a fine chip for your money, but you?ll have to sacrifice the eye-popping performance and features of the pricier chips to get it. If you?re okay with that, you?ll be okay with this CPU.

The Core i7-3820?s differences are apparent just from its specs. In several ways it is much the same as its bigger brothers: It?s based on the same 32nm production process, it has the same 130-watt TDP, and it will require you to also have an X79 Express motherboard (with the LGA2011 socket), a discrete video card (there?s no integrated graphics system on the chip), and a separate CPU cooler (Intel doesn?t bundle one with any CPU in this line). But there the similarities end. The Core i7-3820 has only four processing cores rather than six and thus can handle only eight threads rather than 12. (Though, of course, you?ll most readily notice that deficit if you work regularly with highly threaded applications.) The Core i7-3820 has less cache, too (10MB, versus 12MB for the Core i7-3930K and 15MB for the Core i7-3960X), but it compensates with a clock speed of 3.6GHz that puts it at the front of the Sandy Bridge?Extreme line by that particular metric (the Core i7-3930K?s is 3.2GHz, the Core i7-3960X?s is 3.3GHz). The Core i7-3820?s clocks can rise up to 3.9GHz when Turbo Boost is active; that?s the same rate as the Core i7-3960X (and higher than the Core i7-3930K?s 3.8GHz).

Another variation from the other designs is what hurts the Core i7-3820?s street cred more. Whereas the other two chips have fully unlocked Turbo mode multipliers, this chip?s is only partially unlocked, which means it can be increased by a maximum of four speed bins over the stock clock rate?thus topping out at 4.3GHz. Because Sandy Bridge?Extreme chips provide additional flexibility in terms of adjusting the base clock (with 125MHz, 166MHz, and 250MHz straps), you can push the chip?s overall clock speed further than that. But still, if overclocking is your thing, expect that roadblock to be a bit frustrating.

All this is not to say, however, that you don?t get good performance with the Core i7-3820?you do. For example, when installed in a test system loaded with an Asus P9X79 Deluxe motherboard, it completed our Adobe Photoshop CS5 test in 2 minutes 55 seconds, just 2 seconds behind the Core i7-3930K and 7 seconds behind the Core i7-3960X. But you get (expectedly) bigger gaps elsewhere: In CineBench R11.5, the Core i7-3820 scored 7.07 with multiple cores activated, compared with 10.17 for the Core i7-3930K and 10.48 for the Core i7-3960X. On the Futuremark 3DMark 11 physics test, the Core i7-3820 dropped just below our threshold for smooth pliability, with a score of 8,679 and 27.6 frames per second (or fps) compared with 10,958 and 34.78fps for the Core i7-3930K and 11,509 and 36.54fps for the Core i7-3960X.

There are a couple of additional characteristics worth mentioning about the Core i7-3820?s performance. First, it easily beats out not only other high-end chips from AMD like the FX-8150 and the Phenom II X6 1100T, but in many cases the most powerful model from Intel?s previous generations, the Core i7-990X?a nice accomplishment that shows how quickly ?fast? filters downward. The Core i7-3820?s gains are considerably less significant against the regular Sandy Bridge?based Core i7-2600K, and its follow-up the Core i7-2700K, both of which are only slightly more expensive. But compared with the Core i7-3830K, you won?t see much of a difference in single-threaded applications: Both chips scored the same (1.53) in the CineBench R11.5 single-core test, showing where you can save money if you don?t heavily depend on highly threaded programs.

A nice dip also occurs in power usage: As measured with an Extech Datalogger, the Core i7-3820 pulled 121 watts while idle and 197.3 watts under full load, whereas the Core i7-3930K had a draw of 122.5 watts at idle and 233.7 watts at full load. This may not make a huge difference, but depending on your usage pattern could add up over the life of the chip.

We still think that if you?re going to go all out on a Sandy Bridge?Extreme CPU, the best choice is the Editors? Choice Intel Core i7-3930K: It may cost nearly $600, but it?s a terrific performer that only slightly lags behind the Core i7-3960X. But if you can?t afford that, and if you don?t already have a Core i7-2600K? or Core i7-2700K?based system that will for all intents and purposes be just as good, the Intel Core i7-3820 is still a compelling compromise. You?ll just need to be sure you can live without the bells and whistles the more expensive chips offer.

David C. Ward: 'Containing Multitudes': 'Hide/Seek' Journeys West (PHOTOS)

"Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture," which originated at the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery in October 2010, opened at the Tacoma Art Museum on March 17, the final appearance (and only West Coast appearance) for an exhibition that was also shown at the Brooklyn Museum during the winter of 2011 to 2012. The story of how "Hide/Seek" came to Tacoma is an unusual and interesting one, one that says something about the importance of the exhibition and its place in contemporary cultural, and museum, politics.

As a historian at the National Portrait Gallery, I became involved in the exhibition that would become "Hide/Seek" in 2006, when I mounted an exhibition about Walt Whitman. In that show I included a small photograph of Whitman and his partner Peter Doyle taken during the Civil War. The picture is, in effect, a wedding portrait, and in the label I identified Doyle as Whitman's lover, going on to quote from the very affectionate correspondence between the two men. Being unversed in LGBT history, I did not give any special thought to the picture or to the label. The nature of the relationship between the two men seemed obvious to me and did not require additional comment. To my surprise, Jonathan D. Katz, chair of the Department of Visual Studies at the University of Buffalo, and a pioneering art historian and scholar/activist, told me that that was the first time that the relationship between Whitman and Doyle had been openly -- and accurately -- described in a major museum exhibition. I was startled, to say the least. Katz explained that that refusal to fully face the personal and gendered roots of artistic creativity -- to rely instead on evasion and euphemism, if not outright distortion -- was a commonplace in the art and museum worlds.

As part of his scholarly mission to spotlight the crucial role of LGBT artists in creating the canon of modern American art, Katz had long tried to interest a museum in his project to embody the most recent art historical scholarship about gender, sexuality, and identity in a public museum. Despite his efforts, he was rebuffed at every turn. In addition to a systemic refusal to openly acknowledge sexual difference, the Mapplethorpe debacle of 20 years ago -- in which congressional and public pressure forced the Corcoran Gallery of Art to close its exhibition on the photographer -- had had a chilling effect on the acknowledgement and explication of the homoerotic in American art. In this context, the National Portrait Gallery made an unlikely partner as a venue for Katz's rethinking of art history. The Gallery has a reputation as being sober, respectable -- and slightly dull. The Portrait Gallery has tended to be more oriented toward the subject than the medium; we are popularly seen as a museum of biography, not an art museum. However, with the physical renovation of our museum, we also took the opportunity to refresh our ideas about history, art, and culture; in particular, we started to pay more attention to the art of portrayal, especially in our special exhibits. Our past director Marc Pachter was an enthusiastic supporter of "Hide/Seek" when Jonathan and I proposed it to him, seeing in it an opportunity to fuse biography and art in a dynamically interesting way. His successor, Martin E. Sullivan, not only supported the idea of "Hide/Seek" but also worked hard on the practical matters, such as fundraising, that made it happen.

Given the go-ahead, Jonathan and I (along with our very bright and able research assistant Jenn Sichel) created the exhibition that we eventually decided to call "Hide/Seek." (An earlier title we considered was from Whitman, "I Lift the Veil," which we discarded as too Victorian although it suited our revisionist inclinations.) For us the title "Hide/Seek" nicely encapsulated both the way in which gay and lesbian artists in past time coded or sublimated questions of sexual identity in their artwork in order to avoid the censure of a hostile society. And if something was hidden in art, it was up to us, the audience, to seek it out. For instance, the abstractions of Georgia O'Keeffe or Marsden Hartley were as much a personal response as a formalistic one. Above all, Jonathan Katz and I were concerned with not assuming that the past was like the present and that people in past time were like us today. Therefore we organized a big exhibit, beginning in the turbulent decade of the 1890s, in which the very term "homosexual" was imported to America in order to define (and proscribe) difference, and proceeding through the century, tracing the complex interactions of gay and straight societies and communities. The exhibition covers a century of complicated history, proceeding through the repression of the Lavender Scare of the 1940s and '50, to the rise of the modern gay liberation movement. It faces the political crisis and tragedy of the AIDS era, as well. (For me, one of the great discoveries in working on "Hide/Seek" was the work of Felix Gonzalez-Torres addressing AIDS.) It ends with a grouping of young artists, like photographer Cass Bird, whom we see as harbingers of the future, possibly returning us to a more capacious, Whitmanesque, and tolerant conception of American culture and society.

This is not the place to recapitulate the controversy that sparked over "Hide/Seek" when the David Wojnarowicz video "A Fire in My Belly" was removed from the exhibit after it and the exhibition as a whole were attacked. That episode deserves separate treatment as an episode in the ongoing culture wars. But the amazing thing about "Hide/Seek," precisely because it was based in the work of the most canonical artists in American art, is that it recovered from this controversy and established itself as a moving, engaging, and powerful fusion of art and history. It was an unprecedented success at the National Portrait Gallery, garnering huge crowds and critical praise in both the scholarly and popular press, despite the vehemence with which it has continued to be attacked in some quarters.

That "Hide/Seek" should now be at the Tacoma Art Museum is a tribute to the exhibition's strength. Originally, Jonathan and I attempted to interest other venues in taking it after it closed at the Smithsonian. We had no takers. But after its success (and its Succ?s de scandale) at the Portrait Gallery, Arnold Lehman at the Brooklyn Museum and Stephanie A. Stebich of Tacoma Art Museum decided to reconstitute it for their museums. That "Hide/Seek" should end its run on the Pacific Coast seems to me to perfectly fulfill its Whitmanesque origins: journeying across the open roads of our democracy in a ceaseless quest for self-discovery.

North Korea meetings set to boost young leader's power

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea said on Saturday it will hold a special parliamentary session next month during which the reclusive country's new young leader, Kim Jong-un, is expected to be given a top title aimed at consolidating his grip on power.

The North has planned a series of events next month to mark the centenary of the birth of the state's founder, Kim Il-sung, including a rare ruling party conference and the controversial launch of a ballistic rocket it says will carry a satellite.

Experts say the young Kim, believed to be in his mid to late 20s, could be given two of the countries' senior most titles during the celebrations -- secretary general of the party and chairman of the defense commission.

The North's state media said on Saturday the Supreme People's Assembly, which has the formal mandate to appoint the chief of the National Defence Commission, the state's supreme military body, would meet on April 13.

The Workers' Party conference is also scheduled for the middle of next month.

The young Kim's appointment to the top posts would cement his position as paramount leader and ease lingering fears of a power struggle plunging the country into turmoil.

Kim took power after his father died in December and many analysts had feared a chaotic succession.

The young Kim only holds a military post in the ruling party. His father was chief commander of the 1.2 million-strong armed forces and general secretary of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea.

ROCKET LAUNCH WARNING

The United States has warned that the North's rocket launch next month will impact an area between Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines, an Australian newspaper reported on Saturday.

The Sydney Morning Herald said that U.S. envoy Kurt Campbell on Friday briefed Australia's Foreign Minister Bob Carr on the ballistic missile's southward trajectory from a North Korean launch pad.

"If the missile test proceeds as North Korea has indicated, our judgment is that it will impact in an area roughly between Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines," the paper quoted Campbell, the assistant secretary of state for East Asia and the Pacific, as saying.

"We have never seen this trajectory before. We have weighed into each of these countries and asked them to make clear that such a test is provocative and this plan should be discontinued."

The North has said the rocket's trajectory will be southwards and that will not impact neighboring countries.

North Korea wants to use the celebrations around Kim Il-sung's birthday on April 15 to showcase its emergence as a "strong and prosperous nation", even as millions go hungry and it begs for international aid.

Its vow to fire a rocket carrying a working satellite has put in jeopardy a deal struck in February with the United States to get food aid in return for a moratorium on long-range missile and nuclear tests.

The North's Foreign Ministry warned that it was "intolerable double standards" for some countries to assert that the North was the only nation not allowed to launch satellites while for the same countries, satellite launches were commonplace.

"If there will be any sinister attempt to deprive the (North) of its independent and legitimate right and put the unreasonable double standards upon it, this will inevitably compel the (North) to take countermeasures," the ministry said in a statement late on Friday.

PHILIPPINES ON ALERT

An Australian foreign ministry official told Reuters Canberra has expressed concern about the flight path which "suggest a southerly trajectory for the missile, with booster rockets landing in the Yellow Sea and off the coast of the Philippines".

Philippine Defence Secretary Voltaire Gazmin said this week the North's launch was "unacceptable", and that it was relying on U.S. help to track it. Indonesia has also condemned it.

North Korea has conducted two similar launches. The last one, in 2009, provoked outrage in Tokyo because the rocket flew over Japan. As it did three years ago, Japan says it is prepared to shoot the rocket down if it threatens its territory.

The rocket launch, which the United States and other countries say is the same as a ballistic missile test, is banned under U.N. resolutions.

Even China, North Korea's main ally, has expressed its worry over the launch, scheduled for between April 12 and April 16, and has urged the North to "stay calm and exercise restraint and avoid escalation".

The secretive North has twice tested a nuclear device, but experts doubt whether it yet has the ability to miniaturize an atomic bomb to fit inside a warhead.

The North's rocket launch is expected to be one of main issues up for discussion when about 50 world leaders gather in Seoul on Monday for Nuclear Security Summit. Among those attending are China's president, Hu Jintao, and U.S. President Barack Obama.

Falklands oil exploration is 'illegal' says Argentina

Argentina has asked stock markets in New York and London to warn investors of its claim that five oil exploration companies are working illegally off the Falkland Islands, which Argentina contends were stolen by Britain more than a century ago.

Foreign Minister Hector Timerman announced that he had sent letters to the directors of both markets urging them to force any company involved in oil exploration near the islands to warn investors that the companies risk civil and criminal penalties in Argentina, which considers the "Islas Malvinas" to be part of its sovereign territory.

The companies are Argos Resources, Desire Petroleum, Falkland Oil and Gas, Borders & Southern Petroleum and Rockhopper Exploration.

Islanders and Britons involved in the Falklands oil business say they have proven they can develop oil no matter what Argentina says or does.

"It's like baying at the moon. The claim isn't recognised by the people of the Falklands or the people of Britain. Investors are aware that Argentina is making noise, but it's really just noise," said John Foster, managing director of Britain's Falkland Islands Holdings, which owns a minority share of Falkland Oil and Gas.

"As a practical matter I don't think it will have any impact."

Rockhopper struck oil north of the islands last year, finding in its Sea Lion field what may be as much as 450 billion gallons of petroleum, and is looking for two billion US dollars in investment money to begin producing crude.

Analysts have said that over its lifetime the field could deliver 10.5 billion US dollars in taxes and royalties to the Falkland Island government.

This year, Borders and Southern and Falkland Oil and Gas are drilling exploratory wells south and east of the islands, investing 1.3 million US dollars a day in hopes of a major discovery.

All five companies are small players in the oil industry and would need major partners to shift into production.

The Argentinian government has sought to keep that from happening or at least make it more expensive by barring any participating companies from doing business in Argentina and now by trying to cast doubt on the legality of the exploration.

With Argentina's warning letters, "the stock markets will be able to evaluate if they should continue handling the companies' shares, and can demand that the companies inform the markets so that current and future investors are properly informed of the legal risks" of continuing to operate on Argentina's continental shelf, Mr Timerman said.

A spokesman for the New York Stock Exchange, Rich Adamonis, confirmed the exchange received the letter and said it had no immediate comment.

Argentina has asserted its sovereignty over the islands ever since they came firmly under British control in 1833.

The two countries fought a war in 1982 that killed more than 900 people, and with April 2 marking the 30th anniversary of an Argentinian military incursion, both countries have engaged in an escalating war of words over their future.

President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner accused Britain again of militarising the conflict, and said: "Argentina is always on the side of peace", even as her foreign minister tried to ratchet up political, economic and legal pressure on the islands.

The Falkland Islands are no longer the distant and declining British colony that Argentina occupied a generation ago.

They are a self-governing British overseas territory, and as such their population of 3,000 will determine what happens with the oil, said Stephen Luxton, the mineral resources director for the Falkland Islands government.

"Oil provides the basis for securing our long-term future," Mr Luxton said.

Britain, meanwhile, criticised the Peruvian government's decision this week to cancel a planned visit by a Royal Navy warship in a gesture of solidarity with Argentina in its dispute with Britain over the Falklands.

"This has been perceived by the people in the UK (United Kingdom) as an unfriendly act," the British government said in a statement released by its embassy in Peru.
