Early voting begins in Miami-Dade mayor runoff

Early voting is underway in Miami-Dade County to choose the next mayor.

Polls opened Saturday in the runoff election between former Hialeah Mayor Julio Robaina and former County Commissioner Carlos Gimenez. They were the top two vote-getters in a special election to replace Mayor Carlos Alvarez, who was ousted in a March recall.

With more than 2.5 million people, Miami-Dade is the most populous area ever to recall a local official.
