The Tennessee Personal Injury Lawyers at Michael D. Ponce ...

Nashville, TN (PRWEB) October 11, 2012

The Tennessee personal injury lawyers at Michael D. Ponce & Associates, a law firm in Nashville that serves clients who have been injured because of the negligence of others and those who have been harmed by dangerous and defective products, hereby alerts the public of a recent outbreak of fungal meningitis that is allegedly being caused by the use of contaminated steroid injections that people obtain for basic medical treatments. One of the reports regarding this meningitis outbreak appeared on the Reuters Web site on October 10th in an article entitled, ?Calls for oversight grow as meningitis scare widens?. The firm suggests that anyone who has received a steroid injection recently seek an immediate medical evaluation.

According to the article in Reuters, the situation stems from a recall of three lots of the steroid used in this common injection on September 25, and since then Tennessee has seen a total of 39 cases of fungal meningitis allegedly from a steroid injection that has led to six deaths. Officials expect that number to rise in the coming days and weeks, because fungal meningitis can have an incubation period of up to 42 days. The state health authority in Tennessee has estimated that approximately 5 percent of the people who have been treated with this allegedly tainted steroid either have or will contract fungal meningitis.

Reuters goes on to state in the article that fungal meningitis, unlike viral meningitis, is not contagious. However, it is a condition whereby the membranes that protect the brain in the spinal cord become infected, and the symptoms of fungal meningitis include fever, nausea and headaches. Meningitis is a severe health problem that can and does lead to death in certain cases, and anyone who has obtained a recent steroid injection and who has experienced any of these symptoms should seek medical attention immediately.

People who have been infected with fungal meningitis and who believe that this infection was caused by obtaining a tainted steroid injection should not only continue to obtain medical attention and treatment, but they should also consult with experienced Tennessee personal injury lawyers to learn more about their legal rights and options that could involve the filing of Tennessee meningitis lawsuits.
