The HSUS's animal disaster relief stories
Immediately following "superstorm" Hurricane Sandy, The HSUS rescued more than 250 animals from devastated communities in New York and New Jersey. We are now caring for more than 450 pets in our emergency shelters and reuniting pets with their owners. This is one of many stories from our operations.
N.J. resident Patrick Glenn contacted The HSUS to help rescue his two cats and goldfish after learning that it?may be six to eight months until he?could return home to them. He had weathered Hurricane Sandy at?the house?but evacuated to the Toms River shelter after losing power, gas, water, and phones.
When he got word that his animals were safe and waiting for him,?Glenn said,??I cried all the way over here and when they showed me Vincent. I?m so happy, and I?d like to thank you all for what you?ve done. You went and rescued my cats, and you even saved two of my goldfish. That is beyond the call of duty. I got my family back again.?
