NFL player Ndamukong Suh crashes car in downtown Portland; he and two passengers were not hurt

Ndamukong Suh, a defensive tackle for the Detroit Lions on suspension for two NFL games, crashed his car into a tree early Saturday morning in downtown Portland. He and two passengers were not injured.

Suh, 24, reportedly lost control of a 1970 Chevrolet Coupe while he was driving south on Third Avenue. When he crossed Burnside Street, he crashed into a curb, light pole, a drinking fountain and a tree, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson, spokesman for the Portland Police Bureau.

Portland police responded at about 1:15 a.m. and determined that Suh was not impaired. He simply lost control of the car, Simpson said. Suh cooperated with the investigation and his car was towed from the scene, police said.

The NFL suspended Suh for two games after he stomped on Green Bay Packers offensive lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith during a game on Thanksgiving Day. Suh will be reinstated on Dec. 12.

In fall 2009, Suh was ticketed for negligent driving for ramming three parked cars with his sport utility vehicle at 2:20 a.m. in Lincoln, Neb., where he attended college. No one was injured, according to the Associated Press, but the Land Rover he was driving had an estimated $10,000 in damage, two of the vehicles he hit sustained $8,000 in damages apiece and the third vehicle was totaled. Suh told police the accident occurred after he swerved to avoid hitting a dog or cat crossing the street. Police said Suh had alcohol in his system, but he tested well below the legal limit.

Suh is a graduate of Grant High School.
