Alanis Morissette, who once sang about being female independence, has jumped into the debate over breastfeeding and declared herself firmly attached to her toddler son.
The long-simmering debate kicked into high-gear last week, after Time magazine ran a story and controversial cover photo about mothers who breastfeed their children well past infancy.

So-called pro-attachment mothers continue to breastfeed their children until they are five and six years old, or beyond. Morissette says she?s all for the idea.
The singer reveals that she is still nursing her 16-month-old son Ever Imre and has no plans to stop. ?I breastfeed and I?ll be breastfeeding until my son is finished and he weans,? Morissette, 37, she told Access Hollywood.
She believes the extra time on her tit will give her son a sense of stability that will help him in the future. ?I think it affords the child, when he grows up, to have a lot less therapy to go to,? the first-time mom claims.
?For me, I protect his safety and his well-being and his attachment. That stage of development is a very important stage,? she added.
She also revealed that her 16-month-old shares the bed with her and her husband, Mario ?Souleye? Treadway.
Dr. William Sears and wife Martha Sears, the leading proponents of attachment parenting, argue that modern parents have forgotten how to parent naturally. He believes that children should receive as much body contact as possible, including sleeping with parents at night and breastfeeding after the age of two.
