Do you sometimes have the feeling or raging emotions that everything around you feels great? And are you high in spirit and feel like you can take on anything you put your mind into; then all of a sudden you feel down? If you have no idea why you suddenly feel like you are no longer in control of your environment, and why your confidence went down the drain without any reason, you?re not alone ? you may have bipolar disorder.

Bipolar is a mental disorder that is affecting one in every eighty three individuals in America. This condition is often manifested by elation of good mood one minute, and having depressive moods the next. The shift can be rapid and even unnoticeable by the individual who is affected. Many individuals affected by this type of mood disorder are those who have history of depression in the past. This could also be as a result of mental disorder drugs you may have taken.

There are 3 kinds of Bipolar Disorders; the first type is called type 1 Bipolar Disorder and the next one is referred to as Disorder type II.

The number three type is called Rapid Cycling Bipolar. The 1st type is called manic-depressive disorder; the disorder type that is known for constantly changing moods from sadness to happiness. The next one is characterized by an exaggerated elated emotion followed by extreme sadness or depression. The number 3 is being in a constant cycle of manic depression within one year.

Individuals who are more likely to have bipolar disorder are those people with history of depression; those who are sleep deprived, or are drug addicted. Kids can also have bipolar disorder, but it is always in the form of attention deficit hyperactivity. It is also believed that bipolar disorder could be due to environmental factors and other childhood experiences.

The treatment of Bipolar Disorder is more aggressive compared to other mental disorders. The treatment often will involve you and your psychotherapist to build trust ? relationship. You will be interviewed by your psychotherapist about all areas of your life, including your views on issues and past experiences. This kind of treatment will encourage the individual to be more open. Another way to treat this is by getting enough sleep, and taking some mood stabilizer medicines. If your problem was due to drug addiction, many times you will be required to be institutionalized where you can be observed and monitored properly.

Bipolar Disorder is treatable and in most cases very manageable when family members are understanding and are involved. It is very crucial to have adequate communication between you and your doctor, including members of your family. Whether the disease can be successfully treated or not, it should always be handled with reasonable amount of care.
